When a business makes the decision to relocate to new premises the internal FM becomes an integral part of the relocation team. The FM now has to develop a close working relationship with the Relocation project manager, the Fit Out manager, the new building manager and their own organisations senior management.
For some internal FM’s they are also given the responsibility to head the business relocation project itself. This new responsibility can add great stress to their already busy schedule and whilst many will see this as extra pressure (and rightly so) it could also be seen as an opportunity to increase and/or learn a new set of skills.
Although a business relocation may only occur once every 7 to 10 years (not including the internal churns that frequently occur), the “relocation project” is simply the process that provides the FM the opportunity to learn and develop new skills.
The benefits of a business relocation to the FM include:
Running a relocation project requires careful planning and attention to detail, but what is the breakdown of that planning and detail? 50% planning? 50% detail?
It’s a common myth that people believe that relocating a business is 90% about the move while the reality is that relocations are only 10% about the physical move whilst 90% is dedicated to the planning and implementation of the move.
As leaders in business relocations, we believe it is our responsibility to help educate and give value to those embarking on this journey. So we have developed from our experience a business relocation manual to be used by anyone within the project team.
The SKILLINGS Business Relocation Manual is a valuable tool to be used to assist and guide you through the many phases, milestones and deliverables of your project. The business relocation manual is designed to be flexible, and follow the natural but distinct order of relocation imperatives. It is broken up into meaningful chapters, no matter what your role is for the project, how many team members are on the project, or where you are in your project lifecycle.
Our business relocation manual provides you with topics and templates for scoping your relocation, defining your project team roles & responsibilities, outlining the important topics for meetings and communications, delivering detailed and accountable schedules and timetables, outlining staff engagement processes and documents, providing the FULL tendering process for removalists, and providing full move weekend documentation, including the command centre, help desk, essential move week lists and more!
All in all, over 50 ready to use, already assembled and expertly thought out business relocation templates/products for you to take advantage of.
The benefits are endless… If you are the FM that has been allocated the responsibility of your relocation it will give you a complete understanding of the scope and sequence for the project. If you are a FM involved in or with the project team it will give you an understanding of the expectations of the project and drive the project towards the best outcome for the business operations and the business personnel.
